Tim Patterson

Hi, my name is Tim Patterson. I’m a composer and double bassist from Topeka Kansas. I received my BM in composition from The University of Kansas studying under Forrest Pierce and James Barnes. My interest in composition blossomed out of my study of jazz piano during my undergrad.
I love all styles of music. I have a deep appreciation for music that can evoke thoughts and feelings shared by everyone but done very naturally without the ugly face of ones ego.
My music is a reflection of my observations and feelings. I am fascinated by patterns and truths music can arouse within us so my music attempts to portrays this. Friends compare my music to Samuel Barber or Benjamin Britten.
I am not currently a student at MSU but plan on starting my MM in Composition next fall studying with Ricardo Lorenz.
My wife Sarah and I live in East Lansing. She is working on her masters in violin performance.
